Flowering Plants

Updated: Aug 21, 2019

Now is the time to start planting flowering plants or fruits. Flowering plants are plants such as tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, melons, beans, and delicious watermelon. These fruits have both male and female that are required to reproduce and grow. They rely on the wind or pollinators to help them reproduce. Bees are your best friend when it comes to flowering plants because they help to pollinate them.

Growing

Tomatoes, cucumbers, and beans are great to put in a container such as a 5 gallon bucket.

You will first plant your seeds by choosing your soil ( I use happy frog ). You should put at least 10-12 seeds https://www.seedsnow.com/?rfsn=80036.3c089 in the bucket to ensure that you have enough successful plants and later pull the weaker ones out. These plants love the sun so make sure to put them in an area where they can receive plenty of sun.

Once your plants start to grow you will need to get a cage to help stabilize them so that they won't lean. You will be so excited to watch the plant grow from a tiny seed until several tomatoes that can nourish your body.

Tomato plants

Tomatoes have a chemical called lycopene that is thought to help prevent cancer and help repair cells and muscles! How amazing is it to grow food that taste good and can heal you?

There are so many ways that you can use tomatoes so that they wont go to waste. Salad is always a go to but did you know that you can make your own tomato sauce as well? There is tomato soup that you can make that is comforting and nourishing. You can put them in omelettes, salsa, quesadilla, spaghetti, make a bloody Mary, tomato juice. Their uses are endless.

Thumbing off till next time.
